Patas monkeys (Erythrocebus patas) are a species of Old World monkey found in the savannas and grasslands of Africa. They are known for their distinctive appearance, with a slender build, long limbs, and a reddish-brown coat on their upper body, while their underparts are lighter in color. Males are generally larger than females, and both sexes have a characteristic white mustache-like mark on their face.
In the wild, Patas monkeys are social animals that live in multi-male, multi-female groups, known as troops. They are known for their terrestrial behavior, spending a significant amount of time on the ground compared to other monkey species. They are skilled runners and can reach high speeds on the ground, making them adapted to living in open grasslands.
