Paradise Visitor Center Road Webcam – Mount Rainier

The Paradise Visitor Center Road Webcam provides a live view of the roadway approaching the Henry M. Jackson Memorial Visitor Center in Mount Rainier National Park, Washington. Located at Paradise at approximately 5,400 feet, the camera is especially useful for seeing current road conditions, snow coverage, traffic, visibility, and activity near one of the park’s most popular destinations.

The National Park Service identifies this camera simply as the “West” webcam because it faces west from the Jackson Visitor Center. For visitors, however, its most useful feature is the clear view of the road leading into the Paradise visitor center area.

Watch the Road into Paradise Live

Paradise receives enormous amounts of snow, making this webcam particularly valuable during the long winter season.

The roadway may be surrounded by deep snowbanks while park crews work to maintain access. During active storms, viewers may see falling snow, snow-covered pavement, reduced visibility, plowing activity, and changing travel conditions.

Conditions can be dramatically different just a few miles downhill.

Longmire sits at a considerably lower elevation, so rain or wet pavement there can become snow and winter driving conditions as the road climbs toward Paradise.

During summer, snow gives way to a different issue: traffic.

Paradise is one of the busiest destinations in Mount Rainier National Park. Vehicles arriving at the visitor center and activity around the developed area can provide a visual indication of how busy Paradise is.

Check Conditions Before Arriving at Paradise

The road approaching the Jackson Visitor Center is the final portion of the drive to Paradise for visitors arriving through the Nisqually Entrance and Longmire.

Paradise is approximately 19 miles from the Nisqually Entrance and 12 miles from Longmire. The route steadily gains elevation as it climbs toward the visitor center.

Weather can change considerably during that climb.

Fog, clouds, snow, ice, and reduced visibility may affect the upper portion of the road even when conditions near the park entrance are relatively mild.

The webcam provides a useful real-time visual check before making the drive. It should be used together with current National Park Service road information, particularly during winter or periods of severe weather.

    About the Road to Paradise

Paradise is located on the southern slope of Mount Rainier at approximately 5,400 feet and is one of the primary visitor destinations in Mount Rainier National Park.

Visitors approaching from the southwest enter through the historic Nisqually Entrance and travel toward Longmire before beginning the climb to Paradise.

The road gains substantial elevation between Longmire and the Henry M. Jackson Memorial Visitor Center.

That elevation gain is one reason road conditions can change so dramatically. Rain at lower elevations may become snow farther up the mountain, while fog and low clouds can reduce visibility as the road approaches Paradise.

Winter access requires substantial snow removal. Paradise receives hundreds of inches of snow during an average year, and plowed snowbanks can tower alongside portions of the roadway and parking areas.

The Henry M. Jackson Memorial Visitor Center is located in the upper Paradise area. From here, visitors can access park information, exhibits, ranger services, and trails leading into the surrounding subalpine landscape.

Summer brings dramatically different conditions. The snow eventually retreats, Paradise’s famous wildflower meadows emerge, and visitor traffic increases substantially.

The roadway shown by the webcam is therefore one of the most important arrival points in Mount Rainier National Park.

Rather than simply providing another mountain view, the Paradise Visitor Center Road Webcam gives visitors a practical look at what they may encounter during the final approach to Paradise.
