Paradise East Webcam – Mount Rainier National Park

Paradise East Webcam – Mount Rainier National Park
The Paradise East Webcam provides a live east-facing view from the Henry M. Jackson Memorial Visitor Center in Mount Rainier National Park, Washington. Located at approximately 5,400 feet on the south side of Mount Rainier, the camera offers a broad look across the high-elevation landscape surrounding Paradise.
The National Park Service labels this camera simply “East,” but the webcam is positioned at the Jackson Visitor Center and looks east from Paradise. This makes it useful for seeing current visibility, snow coverage, clouds, and seasonal conditions on the eastern side of the Paradise area.
Watch the View East from Paradise
Paradise is best known for its enormous views of Mount Rainier, but the surrounding landscape is impressive in every direction.
Looking east from the visitor center reveals the mountainous terrain beyond Paradise rather than the classic north-facing view directly toward Mount Rainier.
During winter, deep snow dominates the webcam view. Paradise is one of the snowiest developed locations in the park, receiving an average of about 640 inches of snow each year.
Snow often remains well into late spring and early summer. As it finally melts, subalpine vegetation emerges and the landscape changes dramatically.
Summer brings green meadows and the short wildflower season for which Paradise is famous. By fall, cooler temperatures return quickly and the first significant snowfall can begin another long winter season.

One of the most useful features of the Paradise East Webcam is the ability to compare it with the other Paradise cameras.
Clouds and fog can affect different directions very differently. Mount Rainier itself may be hidden while the eastern view remains relatively clear, or clouds may obscure the landscape east of Paradise while other portions of the mountain remain visible.
The webcam can also provide a visual indication of snow accumulation around Paradise before a visit.
Paradise is located approximately 19 miles east of the Nisqually Entrance and 12 miles east of Longmire. The Henry M. Jackson Memorial Visitor Center, Paradise Inn, hiking trails, and famous subalpine meadows make it one of the most popular destinations in Mount Rainier National Park.
About Paradise at Mount Rainier
Paradise is one of the principal visitor areas in Mount Rainier National Park and one of the most famous high-elevation destinations in Washington’s Cascade Range.
Located at approximately 5,400 feet on the southern slope of Mount Rainier, Paradise is known for spectacular mountain scenery, deep winter snow, subalpine meadows, and summer wildflowers.
The Henry M. Jackson Memorial Visitor Center sits in the upper Paradise area and serves as the location for several of the park’s webcams, including this east-facing camera.
Paradise earned its name when Martha Longmire, daughter-in-law of early settler James Longmire, reportedly reacted to the area’s wildflower meadows by calling it “paradise.”
The name stuck.
Today, Paradise is one of the most heavily visited areas of Mount Rainier National Park. Trails begin near the visitor center and lead through meadows and toward higher elevations on Mount Rainier.
The Skyline Trail is among the best known, climbing toward Panorama Point and providing close views of glaciers, snowfields, waterfalls, and Mount Rainier.
Paradise is also the park’s primary winter-use area. Enormous snowfall transforms the landscape, burying meadows, trails, and portions of park infrastructure beneath feet of snow.
The east-facing webcam provides a perspective that visitors can easily overlook when concentrating on Mount Rainier itself. Together with the Mountain, West, Tatoosh, and Visitor Center cameras, it creates a nearly panoramic look at conditions around Paradise.
Watching several of these webcams together can reveal just how quickly visibility and conditions change across this high-elevation landscape.
