    About Schweitzer Ski Area

Schweitzer Mountain Resort is a premier ski destination located in the Selkirk Mountains of northern Idaho, near the town of Sandpoint. It is the largest ski resort in Idaho and Washington, boasting over 2,900 acres of skiable terrain and a reputation for varied, high-quality skiing and snowboarding. Schweitzer’s unique combination of spectacular mountain views, diverse runs, and a welcoming atmosphere has made it a favorite destination for both locals and visitors from across the country.

The resort’s history dates back to 1963, when it opened with just one chairlift and a rope tow. Over the years, it has expanded significantly, offering a wide range of experiences for all levels of winter sports enthusiasts. From long, groomed cruisers to steep tree skiing and challenging chutes, Schweitzer’s terrain is diverse. It receives an average of 300 inches of snowfall per year, providing excellent snow conditions throughout the season. The mountain’s slopes face in multiple directions, allowing skiers to find good snow conditions regardless of weather patterns.

Schweitzer’s signature feature is its incredible panoramic views, which on a clear day, allow visitors to see three states (Idaho, Montana, and Washington) and Canada, along with breathtaking views of Lake Pend Oreille. The resort has ten lifts, including high-speed quads, that serve more than 90 named runs, open bowls, and extensive tree skiing areas. Schweitzer also has a thriving village area with dining, lodging, and après-ski options, making it a full-service resort that can cater to longer stays.

One of the resort’s highlights is its network of live webcams, which have become a crucial tool for skiers and snowboarders planning their day on the mountain. Schweitzer’s webcams are strategically placed at various key locations across the mountain, offering real-time updates on snow conditions, weather, and activity on the slopes. Some of the most popular webcam views include those from the village, the summit, and key lift locations.

These webcams are especially useful for checking visibility and snowfall before heading up the mountain, ensuring that guests can make the most of their time at Schweitzer. Beyond their practical value, the webcams also provide stunning visual access to the resort’s scenic beauty. For those who can’t make it to the mountain, the webcams offer a way to experience Schweitzer remotely, showcasing its picturesque landscapes in all weather conditions, from bluebird days to snowstorms.
